Difference between training and development

There is great difference between training and development which can be described as under:

Meaning     
Training is the process of enhancing the knowledge, ability, talent and efficiency of the employees for doing specific jobs in a well manner.
Development is the continuous process of all around development of the employees through giving promotions opportunities, bonuses and other development programmes.

Objectives
The objective of training is to make the employees efficient for doing specific jobs.
Where as, the objective of development is to take optimum benefits from the existing employees.

Duration
Training is provided by organization for doing specific jobs. Hence, its duration is short.
On the other hand, development is a continuous process which is needed every time in organization to motivating the employees.

Scope
The scope of training is narrow as compare to development because it is the part of development of the employees.

 Where as, the scope of development is broader as compare to training.
Relationship


Training is essentially concerned with the present events. It means to solve the existing problems through employees help. 

On the other hand, it is concerned with both present and future events.
Need
Training is needed to enhancing the knowledge, ability, talent and efficiency of the employees for doing specific jobs in a well manner

On the other hand, development is needed for smooth working of organization by the employees.
